The Welsh Government has recently announced that access to the Pupil Development Grant (Uniform Grant) has been extended to include extra years. The extension is for this academic year only and parents/guardians have until 30th June 2021 to apply. Only one grant per child, per year is payable, so if you have already received one this year, you will not be able to claim another.
The year groups who are now eligible and the grants available are:
- Reception (£125)
- Year 1 (£125)
- Year 3 (£125)
- Year 5 (£125)
- Year 7 (£200)
- Year 8 (£125)
- Year 9 (£125)
- Year 10 (£125)
- Year 11 (£125)
To be eligible for the grant, the parent/guardian making the application must be receiving one of the following:
- Income Support
- Job Seekers Allowance (income based)
- Employment Support Allowance (income related)
- Child Tax Credit, with a household income of £16,190 or less
- Pension Credit (guarantee element)
- Universal Credit with net household earnings of less than £7400
Working Tax Credit is NOT a qualifying Benefit and if you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit, you will not be entitled to a Uniform Grant even if you get this together with one of the incomes above.
Pupils with no recourse to public funds and asylum seekers who are in the above years are also eligible to apply. Asylum seeker families can have their PDG paid onto their Aspen card.
